2025 Kids Summer Challenge!
IF it has not been a regular part of their childhood, when summer comes, we can’t just tell kids to get off their devices and go outside! First we have to help them by setting clear screen policies. Then, we have to help them have a reason to do so. This is designed to inspire kids to get out of the house and seek new experiences.
Note: if your child is used to having unrestricted, unlimited time online, this challenge will probably not work. You may have to first start by putting restrictions around their screen time. It is important for all parents to know that video games, social media and smartphones are all designed to addict your children so to combat that, you must be aware and very intentional. Please look on my resource page for suggestions and a copy of our house rules.
If you find this helpful please tell your friends about it and ask them to follow @escalatetheconversation or give me a Google Review so we can help inspire others!
p.s. this challenge can be done any time of the year!
Parenting Tips on Screen Safety by Age Category
Thanks to the internet and smartphones, children have access to everything on the world wide web and, everyone on the world wide web has access to our children – if we allow it. Here are rough suggestions pulled from multiple experts (Dr. Jonathan Haidt, Chris McKenna, Dr. Leonard Sax, Wait Until 8, The Glass Between Us) on how to keep kids safe online and teach healthy life long screen habits.
Please adapt these conversations to suit your child best. I teach my children from a Biblical faith and worldview. Please feel free to adapt these to reflect your values and beliefs. Hope it’s helpful.
